Using Allies to Expand Your Network

Implementing a psychological methodology to attract and retain underrepresented (UR) students in the geosciences.

The Project

Our project was funded in fall 2020, and we are currently recruiting principal investigators (P.I.s), faculty or graduate students, who are running geoscience class-led field trips or research-based field trips in the next 1-2 years (we are recruiting now, but will only launch study participation when universities are running these trips again, after Covid-19 restrictions have eased) to apply.

Grants for Classes or research field

We are providing $2,000 minimum grants to fund these class or research field trips, with a commitment to fully participate in our study (which will be completed entirely virtually/remotely, and should take no more than 4-6 hours of full time commitment). The goal of the study is to improve recruitment and retention of underrepresented students in geoscience courses and field trips, and our design should provide direct instruction about how to contribute to these goals.
